Comparing the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander to the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe
The Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Santa Fe are two well-known SUVs from their respective brands, both popularized for their versatility, family-friendliness, and smooth performances. Both crossovers are affordably priced and even come available as hybrids. However, the SUV market is quite competitive, so only one of these SUVs can rise to the top. We compared these two crossovers for you here at Motor Cars Mitsubishi’s Aurora Mitsubishi. Let us share our findings with you for your peace of mind!
You will find our Aurora, IL Mitsubishi dealership here on E Ogden Ave, conveniently less than a half-hour away from Oswego, IL.
Performance and Fuel Economy
Both SUVs share similar powertrains and contain inline four-cylinder engines at their core. The standard engine of the Hyundai Santa Fe does have some horsepower superiority but is evenly matched with the Outlander in terms of torque, with both generating 181 pound-feet. Both SUVs come available as plug-in hybrid crossovers, and both also come available with all-wheel drive.
However, the standard Outlander has a distinct advantage over the Santa Fe when it comes to fuel economy. The Outlander can travel up to 31 mpg on the highways outside Naperville while the Santa Fe travels up to 28 mpg on the highway. The Outlander is also the more lightweight of the two crossovers, which further enhances its long-term fuel economy.
Interior
If you have need of more seating for large carpools or just taking kids to soccer practice in Joliet, you might wish to consider the Mitsubishi Outlander, which is the roomier of these SUVs. The Outlander seats up to seven passengers with several diverse ways to style the interior and lots of head room in the back seats for your rear passengers. The Hyundai Santa Fe seats only five passengers and falls short in terms of rear headroom and overall cargo space.
Design
Both the Outlander and the Hyundai Santa Fe have undergone redesigns recently. However, if you want to enjoy more style and a few extra features for a lower price, you will love the Outlander, which comes standard with a chrome front grille, a capless fuel filler, and LED taillights. Some of these design features are available on select trims of the Santa Fe but cost extra. Select trims of the Outlander come available with a windshield wiper de-icer to help you out during the winters in Downers Grove; this feature is not available on any trim of the Hyundai Santa Fe.
Safety
Safety is another area where both these midsize crossovers find themselves well matched. However, while both the Outlander and Santa Fe share many comparable safety features between them, the Outlander goes one step further adding on several driver-assist safety applications which come standard on all trims. These driver-assist apps include Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Rear Automatic Emergency Braking (Rear AEB), Lane Departure Wanting (LDW), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), and Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist (BSW w/ LCA).
The Hyundai Santa Fe has equivalent driver-assist features to all these apps through the Hyundai SmartSense suite. While comparable features to LDW and DAA are standard on all trims, equivalents to BSW, RCTA, and Rear AEB all come available on other, higher-priced trim levels.
